Job Title:
Financial Controller

Stanton House is partnering with a leading private equity backed UK retail & services business who are looking to hire a Financial Controller. The role will play an essential part in supporting the finance delivery roadmap and continued strategic development of the Finance function in support of the wider organisational strategy.

As the Financial Controller, you shall ensure all internal and external financial reporting requirements and central management accounts are achieved. You will manage the financial reporting and central reporting team and ensure they are up to date on current accounting standards, tax and reporting.

A strong background in financial control is a prerequisite with experience in leading teams. This role is hands-on, and the incumbent must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with the ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities shall include but not limited to:

  • Overall responsibility for ensuring all internal and external financial reporting requirements are achieved.
  • Manage the financial reporting manager and financial reporting team ensuring all internal and external financial reporting requirements are achieved to strict deadlines.
  • Manage the external auditors process including, organisation of annual audit process - including year end, interim reporting, controls visits. Liaison with external auditors on areas of accounting judgement and timetable accounting requirements.
  • Managed the annual Report and Interim reporting
  • Manage the taxation requirements of the business including, tax computations, quarterly tax payments and forecasting, year end corporate and deferred tax calculations as well as interim reporting corporate and deferred tax calculations. IXBRL tagging and establishing effective communication with HMRC.
  • Ensuring controls and documentation are kept up to date to support Senior Accounting Officer.
  • Manage the accounting for Head Office cost centres, exceptionals, interest and depreciation as well as liaising with the business in terms of managing cost centre reporting and forecasting.
  • Manage the finance cash flow forecasting model
  • Ensure the Group and associated subsidiary accounts comply with current reporting standards.
  • Develop controls and procedures, that are appropriate, to help ensure processes are adequately documented and risks are minimised.
  • Keep up to date with accounting standards, assessing any impacts and ensuring necessary changes are implemented through effective communication with relevant areas of the business.
  • To inform the Director of Finance of any issues or changes as and when they occur.
  • Motivate, train and develop the Financial and Management Reporting team.

To be suitable for this role you must have the following:

  • Professional qualification in Finance or Accounting (ACCA, ACA).
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience within finance with proven experience in senior positions more recently in their career.
  • Deep knowledge of financial reporting, accounting standards and tax compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop finance teams to achieve high performance.
  • Extensive experience in preparing and reviewing statutory accounts, annual/interim reports, VAT returns and corporate tax computations.
  • Expertise in managing complex financial structures such as cashflow forecasts, balance sheet reconciliation etc.
  • Familiarity with HMRC processes, including effective communication and iXBRL tagging.
  • Expertise in meeting regulatory requirements and ensuring compliance with tax laws and statutory reporting obligations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on process improvement.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Experience in developing and implementing efficient systems, controls, and procedures to minimise risks and improve workflow.
  • High level of precision in managing financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all outputs.
