Opportunity description

Job Title:
Chief Financial Officer

A Private Equity backed Renewable Energy and Consulting business is looking to appoint a Chief Finance Officer. Within the role, you will shape and execute the financial strategy, driving long-term profitability and growth.

The business is executing an ambitious buy-and-build strategy, rapidly increasing its market share in a fragmented market. With a planned sale process in 2026, it's an exciting time to join this fast-paced, growing organisation poised to redefine the future of the sector.

In order to succeed in the role;

  • Prior CFO experience within mid-market, Private Equity-backed organisations.
  • Experience raising debt and leading a successful exit process.
  • Experience in the full M&A cycle, from the due diligence of acquisition targets to integration.
  • Understanding of industries including construction, renewable energy or the challenges faced by businesses with complex operational dynamics preferred, particularly with "skilled trades" or blue-collar workers.
  • A commercially minded leader with a strong focus on driving business results.
  • A proven track record in driving cost management and operational efficiencies across materials, procurement, stock and supply chain operations.
  • Expertise in working capital management to enhance liquidity and operational flexibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead accurate financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Solid foundation in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and governance.
  • Effective business partner to the Board, Investors, and Senior Leadership team, fostering collaboration and strategic decision-making.
  • Technology and system savvy with experience implementing improved systems and processes.

Responsibilities shall include but not be limited to;

  • Leadership and People Management: Lead and shape the finance function, structuring the team effectively to meet business needs and support growth.
  • System and Process Optimisation: Ensure robust systems and processes are in place to improve efficiency, scalability, and readiness for future growth.
  • Financial Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with long-term objectives, including leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to ensure sustainability and growth.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports. Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and corporate governance requirements, while managing audits and maintaining transparency for stakeholders.
  • Raising debt: as the company expands it will soon shift to be debt rather than equity funded, requiring the CFO to lead the process either directly with credit facilities or a debt broker and ensure a committed acquisition facility is in place for future M&A.
  • Cost Management and Profitability: Drive cost-efficiency initiatives, optimise supply chain and operational expenses, and monitor key financial performance indicators, such as gross margins, operating profit, and ROI.
  • Cash Flow and Working Capital Management: Manage cash flow to ensure liquidity and efficient working capital utilisation. Develop capital allocation strategies, including managing debt, equity, and investments to maintain financial stability.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, such as market volatility and supply chain disruptions, while ensuring strong internal controls are in place.
  • M&A: Contribute to the M&A strategy, conduct due diligence on acquisition targets, and oversee the seamless integration of acquisitions.
  • Private Equity Expertise: Play a key role in preparing the business for a successful exit process, including raising debt to support the growth strategy.
  • Stakeholder and Investor Reporting: Act as a primary contact for investors, providing clear financial reports and analysis. Communicate financial performance and strategy to the Board, ensuring transparency and alignment with business goals.
